Endangered Species Day:  #ExtinctionSucks #EndangeredSpecies #Conservation

Today is not a day worth celebrating.  It is 2021 Endangered Species Day, and a day for each of us to take a pause from our busy schedules and think about how our own actions are hurting Mother Earth and ultimately our fellow species.

Over the last few years, we have seen the vulnerable and endangered species list increase rapidly year-on-year due to the deterioration of the Earth’s health by many factors: climate change, pollution, human intervention, illegal poaching, and habitat loss due to population growth. It is time to act!

Our new wildlife art campaign, The SoleMate Project, will create 200 flip flop large-size replicas of the Earth’s vulnerable and endangered species and place them in different locations around the world.

In 2022, on Endangered Species Day, we will launch our virtual Flip Flop Wildlife Museum to showcase The SoleMate Project flip flop art to show you where these replicas have been placed around the globe. As well as show you  the impact YOU have contributed toward the species.

The SoleMate Project will:

  1. Bring awareness to the Earth’s flip flop pollution.
  2. Draw attention to the plight of our most vulnerable and endangered species.
  3. Help us support our Kenyan artisans and their families; and
  4. Donate 50% of your contributions to wildlife conservation organisations.

As all things at Ocean Sole, we are always inspired by our environment, and our artisans.  The idea was born from an Ocean Sole teambuilding safari in the Nairobi National Park.  The artisans had no idea that the giraffe and rhino in our home country of Kenya, were endangered.  They couldn’t understand how this could happen and asked me what we could do about it if anything.

In a fantastic team effort, the management, the artisans, the educators, and the cleaning teams decided to use our beautiful art to make a BIG statement, and that is what we plan to do.  Thus, The SoleMate Project was born!

Our first set of species and organisations we will be helping are:

Animal Donation Benefactor
Mountain Gorilla Virunga National Park,Congo
White Northern Rhino – “Sudan” Ol Pejeta Conservancy,Kenya
Pandas Pandas International
Polar Bears Polar Bears International
Pangolin Save the Pangolin
Jaguar Tompkins Conservation
Giraffe African Giraffe Conservation
Loggerhead Turtles Local Ocean Trust, Kenya

We envision a future with no endangered species and no ocean plastic.

Help support us and our partners through your donations.  Our new charity website is live and can give more background to The SoleMate project and how you can get involved.  Follow us on this exciting journey.
